Americans in Sweden

I have been to my grandparents today and finally didn´t forget to get their photos of Jenny and Susans visit. I scanned some:

First visit to new cousins. Susan and Jenny together with Östen and Maj-Britt Malmström. Östens grandfather was the uncle of Jennie Willbergh.

Jenny and Susan in front of Johanna and Bengt Willbergs gravestone in Mjällby. Little Emma in foreground.

The new cousins are beeing interviewed by the local newspaper Sydöstran. Reporters name is also Johanna.

In the traces of Bengt Willberg - Bengt Willberg died on his daily walk to the postoffice, in January 1931. We walked in his footsteps 77 years later.

Maria, Susan, Jenny and Maj-Britt at Agneta and Tords place.

A last goodbye. Jenny and Susan with Östen Malmström.
Bye bye!

And to something completely different.
I just got an offer of the DVD of the movie The Emigrants. Here it´s how it looks like:

A link that has been useful

Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet

This is a link I found alot of info on. Also for searchers most libraries have on their computers advanced memberships to Ancestry.com and Heritage.com websites. They are free and they unlock alot of links that are closed to home memberships.

A Great Read

Recently ordered on Ebay The Emmigrants by Villhelm Moberg. It is the story of one family who emmigrated to America from Sweden. It tells of their bravery and struggles and what it was like to start over. It is the first in a series and so far a great, informative, and inspiring read. Full of facts and for those of us who are new to learning about why our relatives made the big move it really lets you in on their emotions and the birth of a new nation. Take care all and check back now and then.....

Under Construction

Currently Creating...........
This blog is going to be for searchers and current members of our VERY extended family. Recently I have immersed myself in finding my roots. Happily and with luck and friendship I found recently some Swedish cousins and some living in the USA. My family has descended from the brave emigrants who left their homeland of Sweden (and some from eastern Europe) and traveled to America.
My mother began her search when she came to visit me in Germany from Florida. She had a picture of my Great Grandmother Jennie Banera Willberg (or Willbergh, Villberg, Willborg) taken in Christianstad Sweden.
The family names I have connected so far are Mattisson, Svensson, Malmstrom, Andersson, Pettersson, Magnusson, Nilsson, Persdotter, Svensdotter, Willberg, Magnusdotter, Persdotter, Kosch,Edwards, Carlsson,
Nordberg, Runesson, Larsson, Gustafsson, Hjalmarsson, Olofsson, Johansson, Manfredsson,
Horvin, Benson, Wright, Bengtsson, Silvertsson, Valtonsson, Jonsson, Bergh, Valtonsson, Flinthage,Sivertsson, Gertsson, Lund, Eliasson, Hallsas, Mattisdotter, Molander, Persson,Bramble,Morris.
Whew that's alot and I am sure I missed some here and there. It is amazing to me that I have so much family out there that I don't even know about yet..
I am hoping this site helps us all keep it together, and also anyone searching maybe can find us and join us.
Maria Malmstom, my swedish cousin that I just met and Carol Nelson in the USA have provided me with a huge starting point, with pictures and info, added to the stuff my mom had and what I have found on the internet I had to buy a huge 3 ring binder and start organizing.
My goal here is to begin a public forum and a connecting place for us all to share pictures and information.
I am sure that Maria will do a much more professional job of it considering her profession but until then I needed a place to put it all down.
One of the reasons I started this blog is that I found Maria just by Googleing my ancestor Bengt Willberg.
So take care and have patience I will begin updating soon....
